Why is my business not showing up on Google Maps?

The three listings above the normal search results are the map pack. If you are not in it, one of these is almost always why.

Check these in order

• The listing is not claimed or verified. Unverified listings rarely rank.
• Wrong primary category. "Contractor" instead of "flooring store" will cost you every time.
• Proximity. Results change with where the searcher stands. You may rank two suburbs over and not where you are testing.
• Incomplete profile. Missing services, products, hours, photos and description all count against you.
• Inconsistent name, address and phone across other directories.
• Too few reviews, or none recently. Volume and recency both matter.
• Address hidden without a service area set. If you hide the address you must define where you travel.
• Suspended listing. Check for a notice in the dashboard — keyword-stuffed names are a common cause.
• Duplicate listings splitting your signals between two entries.

How to test properly

Do not search from your own office and assume the result is universal. Google personalises by location and history. Use an incognito window, or better, a map-grid tool that shows your rank from different points across the city.

How long a fix takes

Profile changes usually show within two to six weeks. Claiming and completing an unclaimed listing is normally the single highest-return job available to a local business.
