The block of three business listings, with a map, shown above the normal results for searches with local intent — "plumber near me", "flooring calgary", "dentist ne calgary".
For most Calgary service businesses the map pack produces more enquiries than the website, because it sits above everything else and carries a phone number and directions. Ranking tenth organically while being invisible in the map pack is a common and expensive position.
It is ranked mostly on the profile rather than the website, which is why businesses with strong websites are sometimes nowhere in the map, and businesses with weak websites sometimes dominate it.
| Proximity | Where the searcher is, relative to your address | Cannot be changed |
|---|---|---|
| Relevance | How completely your profile matches the search | Largely controllable |
| Prominence | Reviews, citations, links, offline signals | Slow but controllable |
Proximity is why your ranking changes as the searcher moves, and why a single "we rank #1" screenshot proves very little.
This comes up most often in Local SEO & Google Business Profile. Getting into the three listings Google shows above the normal results — driven by your profile, your proximity, your reviews and your citations.
