Impressions are the least demanding measure in marketing, which is why they appear first in so many reports. An ad counted as an impression may have loaded below the fold and never entered anybody's field of view.
They are useful in two specific ways: as the denominator for click-through rate, and in Search Console, where a rising impression count on a new site is the first sign that Google is starting to show your pages at all — usually months before the clicks arrive.
There is a free calculator on this site for exactly this.
